
FIA World Endurance Championship
The FIA
World Endurance Championship (WEC) is one of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest-organized
long-distance race series, which will be held in 2012 according to the rules and
regulations of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

20 years
after the sports car world championship the World Endurance Championship is the
first world championship for sports cars. She goes out of the Intercontinental
Le Mans Cup, giving official World Cup status in 2012 of the FIA.

The world
championship titles are awarded to the manufacturers and drivers with the most
points at the end of the season in the LMP1 and GTE class, while the teams from
the LMP 2 and the GTE AM category only become a trophy, but will not receive a
world title.

In addition
to the 24 hour race at Le Mans, the other races run over a distance of 6 hours.
The WEC comprehends four categories, the LMP1 and LMP2, as well as GTE and GTE
AM.

The main
focus is naturally on the LMP 1 class, here
the works from Audi and Toyota are fighting
for the World Champion crown. From 2013 Porsche joins here with a
gasoline-powered prototype.

In the GTE
professional drivers can be found at the wheel, while in the former GTE AM

similar to other FIA world championships series. awarding points to the top ten
finishers on a sliding point margin scale from first to tenth. Cars finishing
the race but classified eleventh or further will be awarded a half point. Double
points will be awarded for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
